January 17, 2025: URGENT NOTICE: The Adams County Court of Common Pleas is warning the public about a jury duty scam targeting Adams County residents. Scammers are targeting individuals through phone calls, claiming to be a law enforcement officer and advising the caller they have failed to appear for jury service and are subject to prosecution. The scammer then advises the caller to obtain gift cards to send to the Court to cover their failure to appear. Once the citizen receives the gift cards, the scammer follows up to have the individual provide the gift card number before mailing the gift card to the Courthouse.
The Court will never direct law enforcement to collect money, bank account information or social security information from a juror under any circumstance. If you receive a call like this and are asked to provide money, bank account numbers and/or social security numbers, hang up immediately and contact your local police as well as the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Bureau of Consumer Protection at (800) 441-2555 or [email protected].

Trial by jury is a fundamental part of the American system of justice and is a right guaranteed under the Constitution of the State of Pennsylvania and the Constitution of the United States. To preserve this right it is essential that the court establish and maintain a well-functioning system for the selection and utilization of jurors.
